architect: Timber & Stone Building Design

A case of the “ugly duckling” of the street, this project was a knockdown/rebuild of a family home in Dudley. Sometimes it’s easier to just knock a house down and start again.

And so, we set to work and demolished the old asbestos shack and built a beautiful open plan hamptons style home in its place.

One of the things we love about this home is the open plan kitchen with butlers pantry that flows out to the living room and out then onto the large West facing merbau deck -it just works and looks incredible.
The brief was simple and the design outcomes were clear for more space, high ceilings and a more usable home to accommodate a growing young family.
One of the key challenges of this build was building close to the boundary on the eastern side. A number of works had to be undertaken in the neighbours property.

Another challenge was to get the clients in before Christmas as all the family was coming to town to utilise the new home. But, we got there in the end and delivered on this promise.
Overall, it was quite a successful build due to an extended pre-construction phase where we were able to complete all design elements beforehand and the day we got on site it was easy and flowed seamlessly from there.
