suburb: Stockton

build: Secondary Dwelling with Rooftop Deck

This industrial style home, featuring core-filled blockwork and suspended slabs, was expertly designed by JT Studio. It boasts a stunning rooftop bar with 270-degree views, stretching from Newcastle city to Anna Bay along the picturesque Stockton coast.

Nestled on a quiet back lane, this home was tailored for a professional couple seeking a stylish, low-maintenance lifestyle.
We incorporated suspended slabs, blockwork, and steel galvanised stairs to honour the industrial style of the home and its Stockton surroundings.

The rooftop bar, bathed in natural light and designed for optimal airflow, offers the perfect retreat after a long day, making it the envy of Stockton. The intricate rooftop detailing includes an internal waterproofed strip drain and pedestal pads to maintain a level surface.

The home’s design allows for cross-flow ventilation throughout, thanks to the ability to open windows and doors. This compact design is small but mighty, truly packing a punch.
This build had a number of challenges, from a tight boundary to height restrictions. Due to the boundary to boundary construction, it was an immense effort from the architect and the Martrick team to include the standout features into a small area.

One of the main challenges was waterproofing the rooftop which included installing an internal waterproofed strip drain to ensure durability and to protect against the elements.
This beautiful industrial style home was completed with a rooftop bar, capturing incredible natural light and airflow, and creating the perfect space to unwind after a long day. Built by our skilled carpenters and finished in microcement by La Casa and Co, the bar stands out as a major feature of the build. Complemented by Weathertex Soffits, the overall design pays homage to the industrial style of Stockton, and brings a modern charm to the space.
