Roslyn

suburb: Charlestown

build: Extension / Renovation

This was a forward extension turning this old charlestown cottage into a showstopper with people often slowing down or stopping to view it.

Our clients Tye and Ellen had engaged Jamie Thomson from JT Studio, who designed a spectacular home. We utilised a variety of different James Hardie cladding, standing seam Colorbond, recycled brickwork, Australian hardwood decking, crisp white balustrade at the front and garden beds which will overflow the brickwork facade in the years to come.
Ellen had a hands-on approach with selecting finishes and did an amazing job choosing elements that were modern, yet still pay homage to the old.
Due to the early set out of the home we were able to determine that something wasn’t correct. The levels between the ground floor garage and the first floor were different and the structural steel detail wasn’t accurate. By picking this up early we were able to lift the height and increase head height to the garage.

One of the key challenges to this job was tying the old portion of the house into the new. There were 3 different heights from the master to the living room, down to the garage. We used cypress pine boards, glass balustrade and wide vaulting ceiling to create a seamless transition providing a warm and comforting space for them to raise their family.
We ensured they were moved in before Christmas and were able to spend their first Christmas as a family of 3 in their new home. It was a push to get it done but all those involved worked tirelessly to give them the best Christmas present ever.

"The Martick team has recently finished an extension on our house. We highly recommend them for their attention to detail, hard work throughout, advice offered and most of all the communication throughout the process. They’ve made quite a big/overwhelming project for us so much easier and we would have them return for any future projects we plan in a heartbeat."
